How We Designed Mother Tongue Madness

Behind the Scenes: The Making of Mother Tongue Madness

Every great game starts with a question. For Mother Tongue Madness, ours was simple: What if we could bottle the chaos, laughter, and pure joy of trying to explain Kenyan slang to someone who's never heard it before?

The Spark

The idea came during a casual hangout when someone tried to explain 'mboch' to a friend from another country. The confusion, the hand gestures, the eventual burst of laughter—it was pure entertainment. We thought: this needs to be a game.

The Process

We spent months collecting phrases, testing them with different age groups, and refining the gameplay. We wanted something fast-paced, hilarious, and accessible to everyone—whether you're fluent in Sheng or just learning.

The Result

Mother Tongue Madness became more than a game. It became a celebration of how we speak, how we connect, and how language evolves in real time on the streets of Nairobi and beyond.

Designing this game taught us that the best ideas come from real life, real conversations, and real laughter.
